Living a life of Purpose

If the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable. That is a popular quote by an unknown author. The word "purpose" means the reason for which something is done or created or the reason for which something exists.

Now God being the creator of man must definitely have a purpose for creating each one of us. And it is important that each person discover his/her purpose and walk therein in order to fulfil destiny.
Like the quote says, when purpose is not known, it leads to abuse of God's deposit in us. Everyone has been equipped with certain  skills needed to fulfill purpose. Not working within your purpose is like one beating the air, you get nowhere.


The bible talks about Jesus having a purpose.

1 John 3:8
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil

Jesus had a purpose for coming to earth and that was to destroy the works of the devil.

Jer 1:5
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
KJV 

This confirms that God has a purpose for each and everyone of us and it is living within that purpose that can be termed as fulfilling destiny. We all have an assignment to carry out, we all have our parts to play in this world. Like an automobile, each part works differently, but the sum of the workings of each part lead to the overall functioning of the automobile. If any part fails to function (i.e. fulfill its purpose), then there is problem. Also, a part such as the steering can not do the job of the clutch or the break, its purpose is to control the wheels. The brake has its purpose which is to stop the movement of the car when applied, it can't do otherwise.
In essence, each person has a part to play and can not function well in another part. Therefore, as earlier mentioned, discovering the part which you are to play is very crucial. Functioning in another part leads to frustration. You are only successful when you function in your part and make a mark.

Having talked about the importance of discovering purpose, how then can I discover God's purpose for my life?

1. Seek God in prayer. God is the creator who created us and have each person an assignment to fulfill.
2.  Take time to meditate. Meditation helps you to connect to your inner self to discover those things that seem important to you. Those things that get you worried, those things you feel should be done better.
3. Identify your areas of strength. Your areas of strength are those things you do with ease or with little difficulty. Others may find these things very difficult but you get to do them easily. Those are pointers to the gifts of God in your life with which you'll fulfill purpose.
4. Study the word of God. The bible is the manual of life and it contains hidden secrets. Effective study of the bible will reveal God's purpose for your life.

Finally, we all must function properly in our respective callings to make the world a better place. As the automobile in the example function properly only when all parts are playing their role effectively, the world will function properly when each one of us  play our part effectively.
